Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) Life in Makkah

Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was born on 12th Rabbi-ul-Awal 570 A.D and was the last messenger and Prophet. Hazrat Abdullah was his father's name and Bibi Aminah was his mother's name. His father died before he was born and when he was six years old his mother also dies. He was then looked after by his grandfather, Abdul Mutalib and after his death by his uncle, Abu Talib. At that time the whole Arab nation was enveloped in the darkness of sinful uncivilized ignorance and had completely forgotten the message of the Creator and was lost in the wilderness of polytheism. There was no moral code. Drinking, gambling and other vices were most cruel. All tribe follow their own law and have their own leader. Rivalries were common among these tribes and it would continue for generations.

Halima Saadia was the foster mother of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). She adopt HIM when he was only eight days old. She took care of him for the first six years of his life. At the age of six, Halima Saadia backs Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) to his mother. Hazrat Aminah went with him to Yathrib where she died and was buried at Abwa. Umme-e-Aiman brought back Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) to Makkah.

Abdul Talib then took over the charge of his grandson. When Abdul Muttalib died the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was only eight years old, then Hazrat Muhammad's (PBUH) uncle Abu Talib took over the responsibility of bringing him up as his son.  From childhood Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) was a very good person by nature, he did not have any bad habits nor did he worship the idols of his forefathers. As a young boy the Holy Prophet (PBUH) tended sheep, as he grew older he began to accompany his uncle Abu Talib on trade journeys. He made his first journey to Syria at the age of twelve. In all his business dealings, he was very truthful and honest. He came to be known as Sadiq, Amin, trustworthy and truthful because of these qualities.

When Hazrat Khadija, a rich widow, heard of Hazrat Muhammad’s (PBUH) honesty and truthfulness, she asked him to take her goods to Syria for trade. She was so impressed by him that she offered marriage to him. Soon after they were married. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was twenty-five years old at that time while Hazrat Khadija was forty.

Holy Prophet (PBUH) became very absorbed in thinking and reflecting deeply on life. He loved Allah’s creations. He would often go away about 3 kilometers from Makkah to the Cave of Hira which is in Jabal-e-Noor (the Mount of Noor). He performed worshipping and meditating and live there for days.

At the age of 40 one day, while he was praying, the Angel Jibraeel appeared before him. The Angel Jibraeel told him, “Read!”. He replied that he did not know how to read then Angel Jibraeel repeated “Read!”. The Holy Prophet repeated the same answer. The Angel Jibraeel again told him, “Read!” And he made him read

Verses:

Read in the name Lord Who created. He created man from a clot. Read and your Lord is Most Bounteous. Who taught (to write) the pen? Taught man what he knew not. (Surah Al-Alaq, Verse: 1-5)

Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was confused by this experience and he ran out of the cave. Suddenly, he heard a voice and raising his head in the sky, he saw the same angel in the form of a man and saying: “O, Muhammad (PBUH, I am Jibraeel and you are the messenger of Allah”, In obedience to the command of Allah, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) invited his friends and relatives to the religion of Islam. His wife, Khadija was the first person to believe him, who accepted his message without any hesitation. The Second was Hazrat Ali a ten-year-old boy son of Abu Talib. Hazrat Abu Bakar was the first Muslim outside the prophet’s family to accept Islam. He was also the best friend of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Zaid Bin Haris was the first freed slave to accept Islam. The people of Makkah were upset when Hazrat Muhammad's (PBUH) uncle and Hazrat Umar accept Islam.

Hazrat Khadija and Abu Talib died in the 10th year of Prophethood. After the death of these two, this year was called Am-ul-Hazn, ‘The Year of Grief”. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) married Hazrat Aisha, daughter of Hazrat Abu Bakr, and also married Sawdah in the same year.

Mairaj is one of the greatest miracles of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This miracle happens on the 27th Rajab and 10th year of Nabwi when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) along with angel Jibrail went to Masjid Aqsa through horse-like animal Buraaq where all the Prophets are there and he led the two Rakat prayers with them. After prayers, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) went to all seven heavens. At Sidratul-Muntaa Jibrail left and says that from his point no one is allowed to go beyond but Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) granted permission and Allah spoke to him directly. After this Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) returned to Makkah through Buraaq.

From the beginning, the people of Makkah oppose Islam because Islam opposed idol worship. They hated Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and are also hard and ill-tempered. Due to this Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) decided to migrate to Yasrib (Madina.
